I am fascinated by the ability of facial expression and body language to convey not only powerful emotions but also to reveal facets of personality and inner truths. I use instant photography to explore this fascination. Through portraiture, I invite viewers to glimpse into a private and vulnerable world; the domain of human nature. I use poses, facial expressions, various props, and locations as tools for expressing what is real in the moment. My work strives to serve as an active meditation on states of emotion and personality. My subjects are composed of the people in my life with whom I have strong connections or relationships. The intimate nature of instant photography lends itself well to portraiture as its small scale beckons viewers to move closer to it in order to see the subject more clearly. Each instant photograph is a tangible, one of a kind object, not unlike my subjects and connections to them.
